6-8 pm
This playwriting workshop opens with a discussion about the “4th wall,” what necessitates an audience, audience engagement and potential responsibility. We will talk about the nuances of place, background, and the “invisibles.” (Yes, I will elaborate). This conversation leads us into defining a writer’s set-up kit. Then, I will guide you through creating a personal inventory based on a list of themes followed by a loose structure/scaffolding to hang your story upon. We will explore mission-driven plays, community engagement, theatrical devices, creating a structure based on how the beats affect the audience, immersion, and fourth-wall breaks.
All workshops will take place in the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space at 511 W. 52nd Street in Hell’s Kitchen. You can find out more about our Workshops and other Public Engagement offerings here.
