MAY 8, 2027
2-4 pm
In this hands-on workshop, participants will dive into the fundamentals of costume design for theatre, exploring the design process from renderings to performance. We’ll examine the work of different designers and how their costumes help tell stories and enrich characters. Participants will then sketch their own costume renderings and bring their designs to life in a newspaper runway show, where they’ll construct costumes using only newspaper and tape.
All workshops will take place in the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space at 511 W. 52nd Street in Hell’s Kitchen. You can find out more about our Workshops and other Public Engagement offerings here.
2026/27 WORKSHOPS
This playwriting workshop opens with a discussion about the “4th wall,” what necessitates an audience, audience engagement and potential responsibility. You will leave with a writer’s start-up kit, a personal inventory based on a list of themes, and a rough structure/scaffolding to hang your story upon.
More
In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the history and traditions of shadow puppetry from around the world while learning how light, shadow, and movement come together to tell stories. Participants will leave with their own portable shadow theatre and puppets, along with the tools to continue creating shadow plays and stories at home!
