WORKSHOP: Poems that Tend to the Past

WORKSHOP: POEMS THAT TEND TO THE PAST

How might poetry allow us a means by which to—in the words of Lucille Clifton—tend to the past? Together, we will consider poetry as an act of documentation, using found materials (for example: photographs, court documents, letters) to write poems that engage with the stories, people, and places that root us.  What need not be forgotten? How do we engage our personal histories with care, thought, and rigor? We will consider these questions and others as we read, write, and talk together.
