Company Manager / Assistant General Manager

MCC Theater, the 25 year-old award-winning Off-Broadway theater that has produced The Pride, Reasons to be Pretty, Frozen, Fat Pig and Wit, among others, seeks highly-motivated individual to serve as the Company Manager/Assistant General Manager. Duties include, but are not limited to, co-ordination of all house seats, company ticket orders, support of cast and crew, bookkeeping, payroll, contract preparation, and office management.

An ideal candidate will be hard-working, multi-tasking, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a general knowledge of the New York theatrical community. Experience with Quickbooks is a plus. During production, the Company Manager/Assistant General Manager will work evenings and weekends. Benefits, including health and dental insurance, are provided. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Director of Education and Outreach

MCC Theater -- the award-winning non-profit Off-Broadway theater founded as Manhattan Class Company by Artistic Directors Robert LuPone and Bernard Telsey in 1986 – seeks a highly motivated and skilled arts education professional to lead its renowned education and outreach programs.  MCC’s education programs encompass School Partnerships and the Youth Company (YC), a free after-school program for approx. 70 NYC high school students with Playwriting and Acting labs. Through the YC students create and present original work in annual showcases and productions.  The ideal candidate will have: a passion for arts education and understanding of NYC DOE policies; experience and ability to create and implement effective, fundable programming; experience creating and implementing assessment tools; relevant producing or executive producing experience. The director will: work closely with partner schools, teaching artists and YC lab directors, report to Executive Director & Artistic Directors, work collaboratively with MCC’s creative leadership, development personnel, and Board of Directors to redevelop existing programming and develop new programming in accordance with MCC’s mission in a measured time-frame. This position is an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced education program director to have a credible impact on a prestigious cultural institution.

Duties:

Program (Youth Company)

  • Coordinate weekly program in collaboration with Playwriting and Acting Lab Directors
  • Create & supervise all Youth Company program/production budgets
  • Cultivate relationships with schools and students to support continued development of program
  • Create & manage program schedule
  • Supervise staff of Acting & Playwriting labs
  • Manage free-lance/part-time producer/production manager for 2 distinct culminating presentations/productions annually -- UnCensored (Acting) and FreshPlay (Playwriting) -- and informal mid-program presentations/workshops

Institution (MCC)

  • Work with development department (director and grant write) & Board on development/expansion of fundable Arts/Ed projects
  • Serve as liaison for education program external affairs
  • Facilitate regular progress reports to leadership and general management

Edu Dept Admin.

  • Coordinate and maintain in-school partnership programs
  • Develop and implement appropriate assessment materials/plan
  • Coordinate departmental marketing and press materials
  • Organize annual program calendar and planned meetings
  • Organize student talkbacks with MCC Mainstage productions
  • Attend conferences & seminars; remain up-to-date on trends and practices in the field
  • Oversee and manage all departmental finances, including, payroll for teaching artists and consultants
  • Coordinating, implementing and executing student recruitment efforts

Internships
MCC Theater interns gain a broad perspective on the day-to-day work environment of a busy Off-Broadway theater, as well as a detailed understanding of how their specific deprtment operates. We do our best to work with our interns, to develop their individutal strengths and to give them interesting work that will help them grow. MCC Theater internships are unpaid. Part time and full time internships are available to college students and recent college graduates in the following departments:

Marketing interns will assist the Director of Marketing and Marketing Associate. Our intern is an integral part of our department, and will be included in both our daily and long-term decisions and work. Being a small department, our work is very hands on with much of it occurring in-house, including aspects of design, ad buying, long-range planning, etc. Duties may include conducting market research, maintaining department archives, and planning and implementing viral and grassroots marketing efforts. Excel a must. Photoshop, Dreamweaver a plus.

Development
interns will work closely with the Director of Development and Development Associate on a variety of projects that support MCC Theater’s fundraising efforts. Intern will assist with: database management; correspondence; donor cultivation events; research; planning and tasks associated with annual gala fundraiser; maintenance of organizational systems.

Education & Outreach interns will assist the Education Director in coordinating various MCC arts in education programs, including the MCC Theater Youth Company and in-school theater education residencies. This is a terrific opportunity to obtain hands-on experience working in a professional theater company’s education department. MCC Theater partners with six New York City public high schools to bring arts education to students who would otherwise lack it. The MCC Theater Youth Company is a free, after-school program for New York City high school students interested in developing their acting and dramatic writing skills.  Experience working with teenagers or arts education is a plus.
